Mental Health in the Workplace

Mental health in the workplace is something most don't think about. How does your culture affect employees?

I work with many clients in my counselling practice with the presenting theme of work-burnout or work-related anxiety. It's a real thing and unfortunately, it can spill into your private life...into relationships, hijacking your mental real estate. This leads to emotional exhaustion, strained relationships with partners and family, self-neglect, and physical health issues like insomnia and chronic fatigue.

You can experience Cognitive and Mental Health Deterioration:

Mental Preoccupation: Your mind continues to replay conversations, fret about deadlines, or anticipate tomorrow's tasks late into the evening, making it impossible to truly rest.

Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Chronic "fight or flight" mode at work significantly increases your vulnerability to generalized anxiety, panic attacks, and depression.

The "Survival Priority Trap": The brain can unconsciously view any work threat as an existential danger, forcing work thoughts into your consciousness during your downtime to "save" you.

Management plays a key role in that.
